• Move with the least possible effort. • While doing Somatic Movement Lessons, your primary task is to focus your attention on the internal sensations of the movement, not the action of the movement itself. • Always move slowly and gently and stay within your comfort zone.If you feel any pain or strain,you are doing to much. • Do your best to orient yourself to the process of learning and doing rather than working towards a goal. • Direct your attention toward sensing the differences of your body parts while going through the movement sequences. • Be persistent, patient, and positive.

  What Happens in a Somatic Movement Lesson? Somatic movement education uses gentle movement and directed attention to improve performance and enhance physiological and neuromuscular function. Through these Somatic movement lessons, you can improve your flexibility, coordination, and rediscover your own possibilities for graceful and economical movement. The use of innovative movement patterns and attention to awareness of your own body are the main tools for communicating with your brain in order to bring about powerful learning and change. Thus, by expanding your own unique self-image through these innovative movement patterns you will bring attention to the parts of yourself that are out of awareness. You will become more aware of your habitual neuromuscular patterns and long held rigidities and will learn to begin to release them.

Somatic Movement classes offer something for men and women no matter what age or fitness level. The exercises are simple movements done comfortably on the floor. They sequentially unwind tension and remove restrictions in the body, through awareness and movement. There’s no right or wrong way to do it – just enjoy! Each class will focus on a particular area of the body, or a common movement pattern. Most people feel uplifted and relaxed at the end of a class, sometimes feeling quite dramatic improvements in the space of an hour – like feeling taller, breathing more easily, feeling lighter and more relaxed. Somatic Movement can quickly allow you to develop a new sense of freedom in your body, bringing greater awareness and new perspectives. Public Classes Classes begin January 2010 in Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. Private Classes If you are unable to attend a scheduled public class, why not get together with a friend or friends and book a set of private classes?
