  soma - tics
The term Somatic was coined by one of the founders of the somatic movement Thomas Hanna. The word soma is greek and means body. Hanna used the term to describe life as experienced from within itself. " A soma isn't a body, and it isn't a mind : it's the living process" said Hanna. Somatics movement education is a self sensing movement process by which we can learn to update the funtioning of our neurophysiology and our soma can learn to let go of old patterns of functioning (tension, stiffness, pain) and experince itself more and more in the present moment,at ease relaxed and pain free.

Somatic Movement Education is a natural, gentle, experiential movement approach to reversing and preventing chronic aches and pains. The movements are designed to override Sensory Motor Amnesia(SMA) by reawakening communication between the brain and the muscles. Most people over their lifetime develop some signs of Sensory Motor Amnesia - a condition caused by our body's unconscious, involuntary muscular responses to our environment. The brain controls the muscles, which move the bones. Our brain contracts our muscles in response to trauma(major and minor),day-to-day stress, repeated movement patterns, and injury. When these muscle contractions become chronic, they cause back and joint stiffness, aches and pains, poor alignment of the whole structure and exhaustion - the symptoms we have come to accept as the inevitable process of aging. This loss of comfort is not aging, it is contracted muscles, and it is both reversible and preventable through Somatic Movement Education.
